Hendrik Vanattenhoven grew up in a family of musicians. His father (radio producer and festival organiser Miel Vanattenhoven) introduced him to a wide variety of music, especially jazz, at an early age.
As a child, he took violin lessons and at the age of thirteen he learned to play guitar by himself. His attention quickly turned to the bass guitar, an instrument that has always fascinated him, and this is how he ended up finding his great love, the double bass.
When he graduated from the “Kunsthumaniora Brussel” in 1999, he moved to The Hague to take a jazz class at the “Royal Conservatory” with Hein Van De Geyn and Frans Van Der Hoeven.
Since his return to Brussels in 2008, he has been working as a freelance bass player in a colourful mix of genres, from Jazz to Salsa, from Brazilian music to pop.
He has played with others like Kenny Wheeler, Philip Catherine, Bert Joris, Alex Sipiagin, Flavio Boltro, Bruno Castelucci, Nicola Andrioli, Bram Delooze…
